Careers

Apparently, Shackleton put out this ad to recruit a crew for his Antarctic expedition. To us at C4E, every word of it is relatable.

Shackleton's recruitment ad for the Antarctic expedition

Some sources say the ad was never published, some say it was (see this video of Brian talking about it). We will never know. We are on a mission to discover our Mahabharata. We can pay small wages and offer constant danger. But if we make it, we will have all the glory and the honor.

Thank you for your interest in working with C4E. I am Saurabh, one of the founders, and I will be your chaperone while you see if we are right for each other. Everyone who comes into C4E has to cross this roadblock.

Before you talk to anyone at C4E

It is imperative that you read this before you talk to anyone here, for any role and any career. A few things to know first.

We are choosy

We are a small team and the hiring process is needlessly long, on purpose. You will have to bear with us. We index hard on hard work and rigor. If you are not willing to go through it, we may not be able to work together.

You will make a video

At some point you will fill this form, which asks you to make a video about one thing you love. If you are not comfortable with that, we may not be the right place.

We are direct

We try to be direct, transparent and open. We will often state the role, the money on offer and other things very clearly.

We do not negotiate

We try to be fair, and we do not negotiate. If you find the numbers low or the work too much, please do not apply.

We index on writing

We are highly indexed on writing, even for a non-writing role. If you think writing is boring, we encourage you not to apply.

Begin by reading Why not work with us.

Mandatory reads

Read, watch and internalise these before you consider C4E as your career and your life. All of them are mandatory, and we expect you ready to debate them.

What joining C4E really means

When you join us, you make C4E your home. That means we become your second priority, after family and health. We may not be able to offer great work-life balance. We know this will not work for a lot of people, and we are ok to miss out on those folks. Making anything your second priority is a big decision: it is either a hell yes or a hell no. Unless it is a hell yes, please do not consider us.

If you do not understand these, or do not subscribe to what I have listed in the documents above, odds are things will not work between us. Please do not apply, and save us both the time. But if you do agree with what is above, I insist and urge you to apply. We are probably destined to work together, and it would let us live an engaged, fulfilling and enriching life.

Is it a hell yes?

If you have read all of the above and you are in, we are probably meant to work together. Fill the form and let us find out.

Before you fill the form

Why is the application form so long?

It is needlessly long on purpose. The intent is to find only the people who can go through the pain of filling it out. There are 20+ questions.

How long does the form take?

Some people take 20 minutes, some take a few days. One person recently told us it took them three to four hours and an existential crisis. You choose your speed.

Can I fill the form on my phone?

Please fill it from a computer, not an iPad or a phone. Several people have been unable to complete it on a mobile device.

Who inspired this page?

We have taken liberal inspiration from people while designing this, including Ankur Warikoo, Utsav Somani, and more.
